The leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) will unveil on Monday the model for sharing the party’s positions between the factions led by Governor Abdullahi Ganduje and the senator representing Kano Central, Ibrahim Shekarau.
Spokesperson for the Shekarau camp, Dr. Sule Yau Sule, revealed this in a telephone interview with Daily Trust on Sunday.
He said that was the result of a Saturday night meeting held with both sides.
The meeting was organized by APC Caretaker and the Extraordinary National Convention Planning Committee headed by its Chairman, Governor Mai Mala Buni; Governor of Zamfara State, Bello Matawalle; and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara.
The meeting was organized to resolve the crisis that is shaking the ruling party in Kano.
Also present were Ganduje, Shekarau and his ally Senator Barau Jibrin (Kano North), as well as Senator Kabiru Gaya, who is in the camp of the governor.
“We made our own position and they made their own position and now they’ve sat on both positions and they’ve said they’re coming up with a sharing formula that they think will be inclusive, which means we’re going all be part of the excos.
“A high-level secretariat committee will be constituted and dispatched to Kano to ensure strict adherence and implementation of the template which will be handed over on Monday,” Sule added.
Corroborating Sule’s position, Kano State Information Commissioner Muhammad Garba said the party recognizes the importance of peace in its Kano chapter and that all sides have agreed to allow the peace to reign.
Daily Trust reports that the crisis is already litigated, with the Shekarau side winning in the high court.
Dissatisfied with the high court’s decision, the Ganduje camp appealed to the court of appeal, which heard the appeal and adjourned until the decision.
But with the parties appearing to reach an administrative truce, it is not yet clear how the legal battle will play out.
