Ukrainian peace negotiators and Roman Abramovich were reportedly ‘poisoned’ and left with ‘skin peeling off’ following peace talks with Russia in Kyiv.
The group reportedly suffered red eyes, tears and peeling skin after the crucial meeting.
According to the wall street journalthe symptoms are said to have started after a meeting in the Ukrainian capital aimed at finding a peace agreement to end the conflict.
At least two senior band members who took part in the negotiations reportedly developed painful symptoms reflecting the effects of poisoning.
The alleged attack is believed to be blamed on hardliners in Moscow who they say wanted to sabotage peace talks to end the war.
The lives of outgoing Chelsea FC owner Abramovich and other Ukrainian negotiators are believed not to be in danger and their condition has since improved, reports online mirror.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also met Mr. Abramovich, but he would not be affected, they said.
It comes after reports that Abramovich gave his close friend Putin a handwritten note from Ukrainian President Zelensky, prompting a heavy-handed response from the Russian leader.
After delivering a message to Putin about potential terms for a peace deal, Putin reportedly told Abramovich “tell him I’m going to beat them”.
Last week, the Kremlin confirmed that the outgoing Chelsea owner was involved in the first peace talks following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the Mail Online reports.
President Vladimir Putin ordered his troops into the neighboring country in late February, sparking a bloody conflict that has been condemned by the vast majority of countries around the world.
The war in Ukraine has led to increased surveillance of Russians living in the UK on so-called “golden visas”.
Abramovich was one of those oligarchs with assets worth billions in the UK, so claims that he played a role in early peace talks were met with surprise.
This report was unconfirmed by Russian government officials at the time, but a Kremlin spokesman has now confirmed the 55-year-old was involved.
“He participated in the initial stage,” Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov said of Abramovich on Thursday. “Now negotiations are taking place between the two teams, the Russians and the Ukrainians.”
Abramovich’s mother, Irina, was born in Ukraine, and her daughter, Sofia, posted on social media to say that only Putin “wants a war with Ukraine.”
