The Suffolk County real estate auction will take place virtually on December 1

The Suffolk County real estate auction will be held virtually this year on Wednesday, December 1.

The auction will start at 9:30 a.m. and end at 3:30 p.m., according to a press release from Suffolk County Director Steve Bellone. Registration for the auction is mandatory and ends November 23. [Click here to register.]

“The COVID-19 pandemic has taught us how valuable the implementation of new and emerging technologies is,” Bellone said in the statement. “As we work to bring county government into the 21st century, the virtual property auction is our latest effort to rationalize resources and create greater efficiency, while simultaneously increasing access.”

In previous years, the auction was held in person for two days. The new virtual format will help reduce staff time and resources and encourage greater participation, according to Bellone.

There are 159 plots available for purchase. Three properties are up for auction in the town of Riverhead, 707 Harrison Ave., 431 Griffing Ave. and a property near Oak Dr and Doctor’s Path. [Click here to read this year’s brochure.]

The auction is hosted by Realauction.com, which was selected in October 2020. There is no cost to the county, but winning bidders will be required to pay a fee of $ 300 to the website.
